Neurotraumatology and Neurosurgery Research Unit (UNINN)

In 2023, our group conducted a series of studies on three areas: traumatic brain injury, hydrocephalus, and congenital malformations of the craniovertebral junction (CVJ). As part of the European research platform CenterTBI, we participated in numerous collaborative studies, which were published in high-impact factor journals and contributed to consensus conferences. Also conducted non-invasive studies using an optical platform to measure cerebral hemodynamics to assess the effects of hyperventilation and various drugs on neurocritical patients. Our team has made significant contributions to the study of congenital malformations of the CVJ, published 3 review papers that aim to clarify the current concepts on Chiari classification, explain the importance and benefits of neurophysiological studies, and highlight the intraoperative monitoring for patients with CVJ malformations. Lastly, we have received important national and European competitive funding for our three lines of research.
